"People don't want to be managed, they want to be led."

Within the beginning of this book, you'll realize something with new clarity Managers are a dime a dozen. Most people know or can learn how to manage. But leaders? They're something special - and what they contribute to an organization is what sets it apart from the competition.

Effective leaders make the difference between an organization that succeeds and one that stagnates. Effective leaders make solid decisions, but they take it a step further - they bring the guidance, vision, creativity, and motivation necessary to powerfully execute the decisions. They influence behavior, shape goals, and encourage the best. An influential leader's footprint is forever engraved on a successful organization's heart.

The good news is that you can also learn to be the kind of leader who makes a difference. And this book - written by one of the best - will teach you how.

Don't Just Manage Lead! (Audible Audio Edition) Arthur F Coombs III Chase Ramsey Scrivener Books Books

I just finished reading yesterday “Don't Just Manage Lead!”. It is rare to find a great leader so willing, so driven to share personal examples learned from unsung heroes who lead individuals, family members, teams, and organizations to overcome obstacles and achieve their untapped potential. I found the author to be authentic and the book to be packed with many powerful practical leadership gems at so many levels. The balanced approach drawing from examples of leading in the home, on the field, and in the office or boardroom refreshing and unique in my experience studying leadership. The book is engaging and demonstrates through real life powerful examples how leading others, rather than just managing, requires so much more than is common, but unlocks much more potential with far less conflict and struggle in the long run. Leaders are not defined by credentials, but by their lasting influence and the positive change, growth, and results they help others obtain. Great leaders produce great followers who in turn also become great leaders in their own right. The book “Don’t Just Manage, Lead!” points the way to how to become such a leader.

Don't Just Manage Lead! (Audible Audio Edition) Arthur F Coombs III Chase Ramsey Scrivener Books Books Reviews

Arthur Coombs gives a very personal account of his experience with leadership its failures and successes, in the work place and at home, as an observer and as a practitioner. The guidance he gives may not necessarily be new to those who've attended leadership conferences or workshops, but he manages to present his advice in a new and refreshing way by incorporating leadership skills in his own book - he is vulnerable, honest and openly discusses the challenges he has faced on his journey. There were only two complaints I had for this read, the first being to over-use of cliched leader examples, such as Abraham Lincoln and Ghandi. We've heard their stories of leadership since middle school, and, frankly, just hearing the names in the context of a leadership book warrants a mild eye roll. The second complaint is perhaps the inevitable result of writing about a subject like leadership, but there are moments in the book where Coombs comes across as incredibly arrogant and overconfident in his leadership style. Statements about people gushing to him about his lectures are plentiful, and one story about having employees crack eggs over his head to demonstrate his ownership of his own mistakes...well that's just excessive and made one of his employees painfully uncomfortable. In summary, a good book with great advice and sharp observation of what makes a leader - just be ready for the occasional raised eyebrow at some of the self-praise and unconventional tactics.
Art Coombs tells many stories about leadership and why even though it's hard, being a leader is very different from manager. Good job Art.
Great book. Author gives the reader direct attention as if he is engaged in a personal conversation. Continues to hold your attention through out the book with personal anecdotes.
I loved Arts book! It is not an average leadership book. It has unique principles that guide you to becoming a great leader. There are many personal stories which make it energetic and never boring. HIGHLY recommend this book to everyone!
I would recommend this book for anyone who is currently or is looking to be in a leadership position. So many great lessons as well as great team building exercises that I cannot wait to use!
As Mr. Coombs is one of my favorite speakers and inspirations, I was thrilled to read this book, and I was not disappointed. The author has a wonderful way of taking stories from all aspects of life and history and making them relevant to leadership. His stories resonate and stay with you long past when you read them, and have the power to impact the culture of those who read or are lucky enough to see him speak. The author is bravely vulnerable, sharing his triumphs and stumbles and allowing all of us to learn from them. This book is mandatory reading for my team, those in management or not, and I wholly encourage anyone who wishes to be a leader at work, at home, or anywhere to read this book!
As someone new to the corporate world and not a “designated” leader, I found Art’s book just as important to my position, both at work and on a personal level, at home. His stories are easy to relate to and I can definitely follow his examples to become a better team player. I believe that WHEN I start putting into place the lessons he teaches, I will make my own leader look really good! Don’t Just Manage, Lead! is a great book for anyone who wants to just be better at, well, anything. Art teaches us how to not give up, how to follow your dreams, how to own your life. No matter if you are a leader, a direct report or not even part of the corporate world, Art’s personal stories reach to the core of what life is all about…….being true to who you are, and that family is all. Thank you Art, for sharing these truly touching, personal glimpses of your life, in order to share what you have learned throughout your life.
